BEIJING - Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari will recall 692 vehicles imported by the Chinese mainland due to defective rear tie-rods, China's quality supervisor said Friday.

The recall by Ferrari Maserati Cars Sales and Services (Shanghai) Co will cover Ferrari's Quattroporte and Maserati Granturismo models manufactured between July 31, 2003 and Sept 25, 2008, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement.
Depending on road conditions, possible failures in the vehicles' tie-rods could result in loss of control and increase the risk of a crash, according to AQSIQ.
Authorized Maserati dealers in China will contact affected customers and replace the faulty parts for free, the statement said.
The statement said that the same problem also affects Alfa Romeo 8C vehicles manufactured between September 11, 2007 and February 23, 2009. Although no imports have been reported, owners of the vehicles can contact authorized dealers for free maintainance.
